Easter Sunday - April 4, 2010
It is with deep sadness we share the news that Tim's cancer finally made it's big move. An MRI scan last Wednesday confirmed that the tumors have spread throughout his brain.

As his family, we feeel very fortunate to have him here at home where we, along with the support and help of an amazing Hospice team, can care for him during this, his final stage.

Please know how very much we care about each of you and appreciate your love, support and prayers. At this time, however, we ask that you respect our privacy as we go through this very difficult time. Comments on the blog are most welcome.

THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!

The Paine Family

  4. Mr. Tim,

Peggy Barber here from OROC. Just wanted to say hi and that my prayers are with you and your family. It's been many years, but I still remember you and how wonderful you were as our leader. Thanks for everything you did for us. I personally remember how you had my medical bills for my Bell's Palsy covered and how you would come down and check on me. It really meant a lot to me.

Long ago, there was a class assignment to write a paper on a leader whom we most admired. I chose to write about you and I received a high mark on the paper. Just know, you are an inspiration to many people and I personally think the world of you.

  5. Timmy Lad,

Keep up the good fight. You visage, after all, is the photo illustration in the Oxford dictionary under the word, "tenacious."

Your impact on my life has been tremendous and I am blessed with many incredible memories of our times together.

Julie Burke and I are thinking of you and your wonderful family. Lots of love, Andy

  6. Tim,
If I know you, you are winning over the Hospice folks with your charm. And before the day is done, you will have Salt Lake City Hospice better organized and committed to having more fun. Love you bro'. cb

  7. Timmy,

Every time I hear the phrase, "trust me" I think of you and our bike rides in Florida. We would begin what I thought would be an easy ride but it would soon become a "hanging on by the seat of my pants" ride. I miss those rides and you. Sending lots of love and prayers from Florida.

  9. Tim & Julie,

I am so sorry to hear about the turn of events. I have admired your strength and courage through this battle the past few years. Julie, you are an amazing blessing in Tim's life. Heather and I leaned on this verse a lot when tragedy struck her brother, I trust God has a plan for us - Jeremiah 29:11

I, among many other people feel privileged to call Tim a friend - he is one of a kind. Livestrong!!!

  10. I mention Tim's name at least once a week in conversation it seems and my wife, bless her terrible memory, always says "Tim?". I say, "you know, my hero/mentor from eBay?" Seems that I am far far from alone in my sentiments. Regardless the outcome of this latest turn of events I am damn lucky, and truly blessed to know the both of you! My prayers and love ~ jonathan

  11. Hi Tim,

It's been years since I was living in SLC, but I still recall your timeless spirit and endless energy with a huge smile. I agree with the "trust me" comment above entirely. I remember you calling me from Watsons with people, singing happy b-day, when I was crippled... it must not have been a powder day :-). Thanks for being who you are.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all very much right now.

  20. Dear Tim and Julie, You are truly Beautiful people and how fortunate the two of you met. I so enjoyed running into you all at the lodge skiing that day. Tim, you always are full of energy and smiles, that is a memory I will always have of You and Julie. Then the AMEX days, we go way back and have many friends in common. Friends and Family nothing better! Keep asking for Yogurt Bars and stay cool as you have always been. I believe in Miracles! I am very grateful our paths have crossed.

Your very best days are the days when you live with true purpose and joy. Make today one of those days.

  22. Tim,

You are truly an inspiration -- I don't think I have ever met someone as genuine as you. I, like many others think of you when I think of the greatest leader I've had the privilege to work with. I miss your presence every day at work.

My thoughts are with your both, I'm so glad you've had each other throughout this illness.

    Love,

  24. Julie,

I know you will hear this over and over but Tim touched my life and career in a way that I don't think words could ever express enough thanks for. He was a wonderful man and role model. From the 1st time I met him to the last time I saw him, always a smile on his face and most positive individual that I have ever met. He made me want to be a better person in life and at work. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. My heart and prayers are with you and the family. BIG HUGS!!!!

  25. I've yet to meet a person here at eBay who hasn't been touched by Tim's guidance and caring.

We all know someone who has been stricken with cancer. Tim showed that that we are not numbers, statistics or a prognosis but individuals and that nothing is impossible if we believe in it.

    Livestrong forever,

  26. Dearest Tim,
You are now spirit – and connected forever to all of us.
    In your epic life, you showed me a true example of how to;
-Respect our Environment – and get out into it
-Speak our Minds – especially concerning our politics
-Enjoy or Family and Friends – and Laugh with them
-Be Open – show who we are
-Be Physical – push ourselves to feel alive and get all we can out of the time we have
-Come up with Solutions – be creative and make a difference

Thank you for being in my life, touching me as you have so many others, and for once calling me a “brother from a different mother”.
Julie, our prayers and love are coming your way. Girls, they are on the way to you too. Your father ALWAYS made a difference.

    Peace
    Ian

His loss is a blow to us all, but we take comfort in knowing we were able to share in at least a little bit of him while he was here. I just hope to be honored to share in his presence again one day. You will truly be missed by us all.

I had no idea he was sick until just a few moments ago. This doesn't seem real. I'm so upset to know he is gone. I wish I'd been able to send my love & support before, but I'm sending it now.

You are in my heart. Blessed be.

  44. Tim left his mark on our lives. His joy and enthusiasm for the enjoyment of the outdoors has truly changed my life. Even into this last battle, Tim remains an inspiration. Julie, it was a gift that you gave to us to celebrate Tim's 2 year mark so that we could be with him once again. Thank you. There are so many things that I could write, but none of the words seem adequate for expressing the love I feel or the depth of loss. I send more love from the Alder household.

  45. I am so sorry to hear the news of Tim's passing. Tim and I worked at Amex during the same time but I did not get a chance to meet Tim until we supported him in his role at eBay. He was a lovely man with a big heart who cared deeply about the all the people in his life. He made a big impression on me. Best Wishes to Julie and the girls.

  46. The world has lost a truly lovely person. I am so glad I was able to talk to him before he left us. I feel very honored to have my name mentioned in the obit. Tim was the creator of the "gatorade slushy" at the top of Windy Pass (mile 41 of 50). Leftover gatorade in my bottle topped off by cold snow. Just what I needed to get to the top. Then at the top he always said "time for a slushy and swedish fish celebration". His positive attitude is what got me over the top and a strong run to the finish. Julie/Michael - thank you so much for taking such good care of Tim. Our family is so thankful you are a part of our lives. Our throughts and prayers are with you. Joe, Karen and Andrew Helfrich, Tim's Uncle Joe and Cousin Kathy

  47. Our hearts are so heavy today, and we feel such loss, but we are also grateful that Tim had such a positive impact on our lives. Tim was such an amazing friend and neighbor. He inspired us to be more active, to get out of the house, to ski Alta, to bike, to run, to do so many things, but above all to be positive and to appreciate the gift of life and enjoy the many friendships/relationships we have. Tim is a great man, and it has been such an honor for us to have been included in his circle of life.

  48. Tim was a part of our lives and a tremendous source of support and inspiration. Things I'll remember:
-Neighborhood bike rides, with Tim pulling all the way (until that one point where I could get enough momentum to pass him).
-Tim & Angelo so proud of themselves for fixing the pool cover...again...before I figured out they had broken it...again.
-Barbacoa...who hasn't shared a Barbacoa (or Chipotle) meal with Tim?
-Playing "I Spy" and losing because, after all, who can be louder than Tim?
-Speaking of louder…have you heard him cheering for Abby or Olivia?
-Ski jumping competitions (and losing most of the time) with the girls.
-Taking a problem with my bike out on the driveway and letting Tim fix it for me, and getting a detail in the process.
-Tim marveling over Julie's cooking. Again.
-Playing chubby bunny, laughing to the point of tears, and then laughing some more.

  52. A friend just told me of Tim's passing. It makes me sick at heart. Tim and I rode together in Ponte Vedra many years ago. He was always a gracious encourager and a real hammer on the bike. Another good friend nicknamed his group "The Paine Gang" and for good reason. Movie star good looks made me hate him even more. He made us all better athletes and better people for having known him. God bless you Timmy.
